Full Name: Gareth Jean Andreu
Nick Names: none
Age: 21, born January 5th, 1988
Sex:Male
Species: Human
Physical Appearance
Height: 5’7”
Weight:165lbs
Hair: Deep red, long to the middle of his back and slightly wavy, generally worn loose or tied back in a low ponytail.
Body: Slightly taller than his sister, Gareth is deceptively feminine in appearance. He is only slightly more muscular-looking than Garnet, though underneath the slim exterior, he has a strong build that comes from the years of working alongside his father in their lavender fields. He has soft, pale greenish grey eyes that for the most part seem sad, though this is primarily because he spends the majority of his time deep in thought, when not working or spending time with his sister. He is extremely pale with deep-set eyes, often seeming to be ill despite actually being as healthy as a horse. He has delicate lips that often catch women’s eyes more than most aspects about him, always being ready with a smile or a laugh when the situation lends itself to it.
Clothing: Being very slim, Gareth tends to avoid the more macho looks of most men, feeling that he looks ridiculous in anything meant to flaunt muscle he simply doesn’t have. Instead, he goes for simple and practical for the most part, sticking with the thick coats and trousers worn by most workers in the lavender fields, or jeans when he has time off, almost always accompanied by a button-up shirt or tshirt. His clothes are worn, mainly because of the simple fact that he sees no reason to waste money they don’t have to spare on new clothing until what he has is no longer wearable. Mainly, he fixes his own clothes once they are torn or worn or asks his sister to mend them when his minimal sewing skills aren’t up to the challenge. On the whole, Gareth dresses like a typical young man of his town and age, usually wearing a cross necklace that matches the one Garnet wears or, when working or wearing an open shirt, keeping it tucked safely in his pocket.
Basic Personality: Gareth is the opposite of his sister in most ways. Being protective of her, he has become naturally outgoing and bullish, with a personality that would normally make friends easily if it weren’t for his little quirks that seem to prevent it. Instead, he pleases himself with helping to provide for his family, happy to spend whatever time he can with the sister he adores, her company being more than enough for him. He is, primarily, a happy young man, always more than willing to help anyone in need in whatever way he can. Though this occasionally gets him in trouble, especially when he gets into a fight over his sister, he has little care for the outcome of his actions as long as his sister is safe and he does what he believes is right. With Garnet especially, he is extremely affectionate, always giving her hugs and a shoulder to lean on whenever she needs it, but if anyone threatens or harms her, they see a very different side of him. He thinks of Garnet as ‘his girl’, the person it is his duty to protect from anything that might be a danger to her, and he will do anything to make sure he fulfils this duty to the fullest. Anyone who tests this soon finds themselves with, at the very least, a bloody nose, a victim of his lion-like protectiveness.
Identifying Features: Very deep-set eyes that make him stand out far more than normal; a small number of freckles on his upper cheeks, though they rarely show until he has been in the sun for a long time.
Likes:
~ His sister. She is the most important thing in the world to him and he will do anything to make sure she is well taken care of and happy.
~ Lavender. Unlike most of the men who work in the fields, Gareth actually enjoys the scent of the flowers he works with, although he will rarely admit it.
~ The wind. He loves the freedom of it, reminding him of his dreams of travelling the world.
~ Solitude. Apart from his sister, Gareth rarely needs to have anyone around him to be happy. He is perfectly content to amuse himself with sitting quietly and admiring the beauty of the world around him.
Dislikes:
~ Men approaching his sister. He has a general opinion of the men that go after her as seeking nothing more than a trophy and refuses to see ‘his Garnet’ treated that way.
~ The women in town. The way they treat his sister disgusts him and shows them to be shallow and closed-minded, putting them straight out of the running as possible love interests for him.
~ People who judge before they get to know someone. He is the victim of this constantly, and people avoid him as much as possible. At the same time, his sister is often on the receiving end of such treatment, leaving them both with practically no one but each other.
~ Wasting time. Though he can often be found sitting quietly or seemingly doing nothing, his time is rarely wasted. There is almost always a purpose to whatever he does, whether it is immediately obvious to others or not.
The little things
Strengths:
* While seeming lanky, he is very strong and hardworking, always pushing himself to the limits of his endurance.
* Sense of humour. No matter his own mood, he will always attempt to make someone smile if they seem down.
* Determination. He will not give up on something he believes in until he knows there is no option left, and even then will often still keep trying.
* Sense of duty. He knows what is right and what he should do and will go out of his way to make sure he does it.
* Intelligence. Though he rarely shows it to anyone, Gareth is very intelligent and loves to learn, putting his knowledge to use in helping the productivity of the farm.
Weaknesses:
* Temper. He will not stand for anyone harming those he loves and has a tendency to let his temper get the better of him when they do. He has a ‘punch first, ask questions later’ type of nature.
* Independence. He hates to rely on anyone else, thinking of himself as ‘the man of the house’ despite their father still being around. He feels that he should do everything he can to provide for his family.
* Overprotectiveness. He can shelter Garnet too much, not allowing her to do things other girls her age might do for fear she may get hurt. This can often lead to her not being able to look after herself at times when most girls would.
* Sense of humour. While this is usually a positive, he can get himself into trouble by seeing something funny where there is none
* Mischievousness. He loves to have fun and can sometimes get in trouble when his jokes go too far.
Hobbies:
* Gardening. Although he spends most of his day looking after the lavender fields, he loves to watch things grow and nurture them.
* Wandering with Garnet. Since they spend most of their time working, he enjoys the time they spend simply escaping and exploring.
* Looking after animals. Although no one knows about it, as far as he knows, he has a habit of taking in small animals, keeping them hidden in sheds and other secluded places until he finds a home for them or, if they’re wild, until they are able to be set free again.
* Writing. He has a box full of scraps of paper under his bed that are covered in scribbles of poems or stories that he has told Garnet, keeping track of them for the future.
Occupation: For the majority of the year, Gareth works with his father tending the lavender fields and, once the harvest has been taken in, preparing it for sale and use in the various products Sault is famous for. When he is not working for his father, he hires out to neighbouring farms as a hired hand, helping look after animals and doing odd jobs to bring in money for their family. He keeps very little of the money himself, giving most of it to his father and buying little presents for Garnet, only putting aside a little for the future.
Highest Education Level Achieved: Though Gareth was an excellent student, he finished high school with mostly B’s and a couple of C’s, due to spending so much time working rather than studying. He hopes one day to be able to continue his studies but doubts that will ever happen, though as long as he is able to look after his sister, he doesn’t mind that much.
History[/center]
Born on January 5th, 1988 in Sault, France, Gareth Jean Andreu was, even from the beginning, an uncooperative child. Raquelle Dechire had been expecting a daughter, and although she was soon granted her wish, the arrival of her son proved to be shock she was unready for. It was not simply the fact that she had given birth to the little boy, but the fact that, even as a baby, the boy seemed to driven even those most closely connected to him away from him.
As children, having only their father for family, Gareth naturally took on the role of the older brother and protector despite their having been so close in ages, and quickly developed a reputation for being violent and temperamental, however undeserved the rumours. Though he preferred to protect his sister through simple talk, he soon began to live up to the name, his younger teen years bringing with them a series of bruises and scratches as a result of fights with the numerous boys attempting to garner the attention of his innocent little sister. He had heard the way the women in town talked about her, and the way the men who passed through looked at her like a trophy to be won rather than as a genuine romantic interest and refused to allow the person who mattered most to him in the world become the subject of jokes and taunts, or at least no more so than she was already.
Throughout their lives, Gareth and Garnet have been virtually inseparable, always supporting and caring for one another in any way needed that they were capable of. Gareth does everything he can to ensure his sister’s safety and happiness, much to the detriment of his own popularity. Although he uses his work in the fields to dispense of the majority of the frustrations he develops from seeing the way his sister is treated, he often returns home with black eyes and yet another man in town avoiding him at all costs. As a result, he spends most of his time alone, the majority of the townspeople giving him the widest berth possible, whether it be because of having heard of his escapades or simply because he leaves them feeling uneasy.
Although Gareth feels perfectly content with the life he currently leads, he hopes one day to be able to travel the world with Garnet and take her away from the torment of the townswomen that accuse and slander her every day for no fault of her own, and to prove to her and them the potential she has for greatness.

Sample Roleplay
With a small smile, Gareth paced the small living room once more, anxiously watching the doorway for the halo of red hair that he was waiting for to appear. He hadn’t been waiting long, but every moment seemed like an eternity. He fingered the small box in his pocket and his smile broadened further. Surely she would love it. He had seen the way the women in town eyed the jewellery that sat in the shop windows day in and day out and Garnet, though she tried her best not to be caught, was no exception. Months ago, he had seen it sitting on one of the small display stands, the gems shimmering in the evening sunlight, and from that moment he had set aside every spare cent he had to buy it. The necklace was perfect for his sister, the delicate silver cross setting off the garnets as though the two substances had been made for one another. How could he refuse?
As his path took him past the window, he looked outside yet again, admiring the winter wonderland that had been their lavender fields mere months before. Everything was so beautiful in winter. The small mounds that, in summer, were the tiny lavender bushes that were their livelihood were covered in snow at this time of year, making them seem like clouds that had settled on the ground for them to wander through. It made him smile to think of the snowball fights he and Garnet would have over the next few days. She deserved the rest after working so hard at home and in the shop and he would make sure she got it.
Hearing the sound of footsteps, he turned, a delighted grin breaking out on his face as he saw the little beauty that was his sister entering the room. No matter what the women in town said, he was proud of her. They were merely jealous that they could never live up to the standard she set for elegance and grace in their little commune. He made his way toward her, pulling her close in a tight hug and kissing her cheek gently. “Joyeux Noel, Garnet,” he said brightly as he pulled back, taking the little box from his pocket and holding it out for her. “It isn’t anything special, but I couldn’t resist, it was too perfect for you.” Shoving his spare hand into his pocket, he closed his fingers around the small pocketwatch he had bought for himself with the little money he had had left over from buying the necklace, the matching cross attached to the chain a constant reminder of the bond between him and his precious sister.
